Miles of restaurants, attractions, and shops line the river to make it one of the top tourist attractions in the state. A day spent at the Riverwalk is a day full of adventure and exploration. Here are five of our favorite things to do at the Riverwalk.

  1. Boat Tours

No list of things to do at the San Antonio Riverwalk would be complete without mentioning boat tours. Take a guided tour of this beautiful area for insights into the history and culture of the city.  We suggest buying a ticked from Go Rio. They offer narrated tours, boat dining, and shuttles to get to you from point A to point B.

  1. Pearl District

For foodies, this is the place to be. The Pearl District is one of the newest neighborhood revitalization projects along the river has become the culinary hub of San Antonio. You’ll find plenty of chances to try some world-class cooking here, as well as shopping opportunities and photo ops.

The 22 acres that make up the Pearl district holds the Culinary Institute of America, which brings fantastic food options to the area. Even if you skip the Riverwalk proper, the Pearl district should not be missed.

  1. San Antonio Museum of Art

If you’re a fan of the arts, continue down the river on your boat tour to get to the San Antonio Museum of Art. The permanent and special exhibits on display here take you through the world of art and culture.SAMA is well-known for having one of the most intelligently curated collections of ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian art. Travel through Asia in the wing dedicated to the continent’s art, or explore folk art of the Americas.

  1. See a Show at Aztec on the River

For some live entertainment, plan your visit around a concert at Aztec on the River. This historic building was built in 1926 and is full of style and interesting architecture from that era. The theater sees a lot of big names coming through and is one of the most popular venues in the city. Whether you’re into hard rock, Mexican pop, rap, or country, you’re likely to find a headliner you’re interested in at the Aztec.

  1. Arneson River Theater

If you’re looking for a cultural show, stop by the Arneson River Theater. This open-air theater was built in the 1940s to bring visitors a chance to see performances of everything from traditional Mexican dance to opera. Whether you’re watching the show by boat or on the shore, the Arneson is always interesting.

Do a little research to find everything you want to do on the Riverwalk, or show up planless to let the area sweep you away on an adventure. Either way, the Riverwalk is a great place for families, couples, and solo explorers to experience.
