2020 Ford ExplorerAre you looking for a powerful SUV that’s both reliable and comfortable? Then you should take a look at what’s in the Ford lineup this year. Two of their popular options are the Explorer and the Expedition. If you aren’t sure which one is right for you, read on to see how they compare.

Engine and Towing

The Explorer comes with four engine choices; a 2.3-liter EcoBoost, a 3.0-liter EcoBoost, a 3.3-liter hybrid, and the 3.5-liter Ti-VCT. For the Expedition, you can choose one of two engines. They are actually the same 3.5-liter EcoBoost, but in the Platinum trim, it’s a high-output version that produces more horsepower and torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission comes as standard equipment on every Expedition and rear-wheel drive is standard, while four-wheel drive is available as an upgrade. This is the same for the Explorer, however, due to its lower ground clearance, it won’t handle going off-road quite as well.

If you need an SUV that is capable of towing a large load, you’ll want to opt for the Expedition. When equipped with the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package, this vehicle can tow a maximum of 9,300 pounds. The Explorer comes with AdvanceTrac with roll stability control which, when combined with the standard trailer sway control, makes towing an easier task. If you go with the Explorer with the Class III Trailer Tow Package, you will have the ability to tow up to 5,600 pounds.

Interior Comforts

There are three rows of seating in both of these SUVs, and you’ll find plenty of room for all your passengers and their gear. For the most room inside, you’ll want to choose the Expedition in one of the Max trims. They have an increased wheelbase, giving them extra room inside. Some of the features shared by the Explorer and the Expedition include tri-zone automatic temperature control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, push-button start, and ambient lighting.

If you decide to go with the 2020 Explorer, you might find features that include available wireless charging, dual second-row smart-charging USB ports, and a power-folding third row, depending on the trim level. With the Expedition, possible interior comforts may include a memory feature for the driver’s seat, a reversible cargo mat, 15 beverage holders, woodgrain appliques, a 110-volt power outlet, and a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel.

Safety and Reliability

Ford equips its vehicles with the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of safety features, and the Explorer and Expedition are no different. This system will keep you and your passengers safe on the road, but depending on the vehicle and trim level you decide on, safety features will vary. On both vehicles, you’ll find automatic high-beam headlamps, a rearview camera, and adaptive cruise control. On the Expedition, the blind-spot information system also has a trailer tow monitoring feature. It also comes with pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking.

Either one of these vehicles will make an excellent SUV. You just have to decide which features are right for you. The friendly staff at Jordan Ford is here to help if you need more information.
