Viva Los San Antonio Rey Feo 74!
With its roots in medieval Spain, the story of the Rey Feo is one of the people selecting their own royal representative to walk among them and share their concerns as an “ugly king” or “people’s king.” Here in San Antonio, the Rey Feo is crowned by the San Antonio Fiesta Commission and makes his debut at the Fiesta San Antonio to commemorate the Battle of San Jacinto and remember the heroes of the Alamo.
But as well as touring with his court, riding in the parades, and being treated like royalty, the Rey Feo also acts as goodwill ambassador, touring schools in the area. He also supports the Rey Feo Scholarship Foundation as it endeavors to provide higher education to hundreds of San Antonio students every year. This year’s Rey Feo is Larry Kurth, who will spend the year showing his dedication to furthering the opportunities of young people.
Getting Involved in the Fiesta Rey Feo 74
Along with the vivid color and breathless excitement of this year’s Fiesta San Antonio, you might have noticed the stylish vehicles in Rey Feo’s royal cavalcade. We were proud to drive the people’s king and his court to various festival events, and as he says, “you can’t be the king unless you’re riding in a Ford!”
As the official sponsor of this year’s Fiesta, we’re proud and excited to support Rey Feo in his role in the San Antonio community, and we’re wearing our medals with pride.
What to Watch Out for Next
You might be feeling a little flat now that the Fiesta has drawn to a close, but there’s still plenty to look forward to, and many opportunities to continue supporting the Scholarship Foundation. The Rey Feo Parade for Education will take place on September 23 at the Arneson River Theatre. You can also book tickets to take part in Sundaes With Style on September 10 at Estancia Hotel, or the Royal Contessa on January 13 in 2024.
