  1. Alamo San Antonio, TXVisit the Alamo

The Alamo is an 18th-century Spanish mission. It’s the site of a battle with Mexico for Texan independence that took place in 1836. About 200 people defended the Alamo from General Antonio López de Santa Anna and his troops, including David Crockett and James Bowie. They fought bravely, but Santa Anna won the battle.

After a later fight, General Sam Houston captured the Mexican leader. The victors shouted, “Remember the Alamo!” for the many people who died defending the mission.
