2021 Ford Mustang
Americans have loved the Ford Mustang ever since its introduction in 1964. And the 2021 lineup is already popular among Mustang enthusiasts thanks to its powerful engines, top-of-the-line performance, and modern styling. Read on to learn more about the 2021 Ford Mustang.
Trim Levels
The 2021 Mustang is available in seven trim packages: the EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, Shelby GT500, Bullitt, and Mach 1. Its standard body style is a coupe or fastback, although the EcoBoost, Premium, and GT Premium are also available as convertibles. Every trim includes LED headlights and rear lights, daytime running lights, a center high mount brake light, rear spoiler, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Except for the base EcoBoost models, all models also feature heated exterior mirrors and fog lights.
The Mustang Mach 1 has been resurrected for the 2021 model year. It has a custom front end as well as black stripes on the hood and sides.
Engine
The Mustang lineup has several powerful engines, including a 310-horsepower 2.3-liter Turbo I-4 that powers the EcoBoost and EcoBoost Premium models. Next, a 460-horsepower 5.0-liter V-8 is standard on the GT and GT Premium. Both the Mach 1 and the Bullitt feature the same engine as the two GT variants, with performance enhancements to increase horsepower to 480. In contrast, each Shelby GT500 sports a 760-horsepower 5.2-liter V-8 that produces an astounding 625 pound-feet of torque.
Further, the Mach 1 is only available with a six-speed manual transmission, while the Shelby GT500 only uses an automatic transmission. All other trims include a standard six-speed manual, with available 10-speed automatic transmission. Also, all 2021 Ford Mustangs are rear-wheel drive.
Performance
Every Mustang is equipped with four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist and electronic brake distribution. Traction control, electronic stability control, and hill assist are standard on all trims, as well.
The 2021 Mustang is fast. According to Car and Driver, even the base EcoBoost model has some serious giddy-up. The manual EcoBoost goes from zero to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, while the automatic reaches 60 mph in only 5.3 seconds from a stationary position. Impressively, the Mach 1 and the automatic Bullitt clock 60 mph even faster, at just 4.2 seconds. However, the supercharged Shelby GT500 beats them all, with a zero-60 mph time of only 3.7 seconds.
Interior
Standard infotainment features in the 2021 Mustang include a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot, voice recognition, touch-screen display, Bluetooth audio streaming, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, hands-free phone, AM/FM radio, and a six-speaker audio system. The GT Premium also adds navigation, while the Mach 1 offers an enhanced nine-speaker audio system.
The Mustang interior has everything you need to stay comfortable on the road. All models have power windows and locks, a cabin air filter, a leather-trimmed tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cargo area lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and ambient lighting.
You'll enjoy 13.5 cubic feet of cargo space, which increases when you fold down the split-fold rear bench seat.
Safety
Ford has outfitted the 2021 Mustang with a suite of advanced air bags including driver's knee and side-curtain bags. Other standard safety features include pre-collision assist, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a rearview camera, theft-deterrent system, and a lane departure warning system. High-end models also add parking distance sensors.
