2020 Ford Explorer

The 2020 Explorer comes in four different trims. The XLT is the base option offering some not-so-basic features like chrome accents in the front and rear, heated power side mirrors with LED turn signals, and 18-inch wheels. For even more exterior perks, the Limited trim comes with 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, dual chrome exhaust tips, and a power liftgate with foot activation.

The ST trim is a sportier version of the Explorer with upgraded power and performance features, a quad chrome-tipped exhaust, LED fog lights, and automatic windshield wipers that turn on when they detect rain. Finally, the Platinum trim offers all of Ford's top-notch features throughout the vehicle, including exterior satin aluminum accents.

Three different engines are available for the 2020 Explorer depending on your driving desires. The base trim comes standard with a 2.3-liter engine that uses a new 10-speed automatic transmission to pump out 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. With this base engine, you'll be able to tow up to 5,000 pounds with the proper equipment.

For more power, choose the ST or Platinum trims. Both come standard with a V-6 engine paired with the same transmission as the previous engine. With the ST trim, you'll enjoy some serious kick at a maximum of 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. If you choose the Limited trim level, you'll have the option for a hybrid engine. This is a 3.3-liter V-6 engine paired with an electric motor that offers 5,000 pounds of towing capacity and 318 combined-system horsepower.

Opt for Ford's intelligent four-wheel-drive system and terrain management for optimal control on any road surface. Various drive modes allow for a customizable experience each time you get behind the wheel. Choose the ST trim for a thrilling ride and performance features, like paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel and a specially designed independent suspension.

Carry loads of cargo or up to seven people thanks to the 2020 Explorer's spacious cabin. Easy-folding second-row seats allow for quick access to the third row, while a folding third-row seat opens up extra cargo space. With both the second and third rows folded, you'll get 87.8 cubic feet of space with a flat loading floor.

Several interior perks come standard, like tri-zone automatic climate control and map lights in all three rows. Available upgrades include heated leather seating, ambient lighting, and driver seat memory. A tablet-sized touch screen is also available for easy use of the SYNC 3 infotainment system and access to apps, music, phone calls, and more.

Every 2020 Explorer model is equipped with a safety canopy system and a post-crash alert system. Several active safety features are also standard, including automatic high beams, a lane-keep assist system, and blind spot warnings. Adaptive cruise control and active parking assistance are also available.
